Luis Castaner and his cousin Tomas Serra founded the brand in 1927, with their iconic espadrilles. During the Spanish Civil War their products are converted into products of military interest. With the arrival of industrialization, the company suffered a sharp decline in sales. In the 1960s, with the generational change and reinvention of the brand, Lorenzo Castaner and his wife Isabel took the lead and revolutionized the business, re-proposing the historic espadrilles in various colors; transforming it from a genuinely poor product to a real fashion shoe. During the 70s, the pinnacle of success was reached, also given by the collaboration with the famous designer Yves Saint Laurent, who proposed a wedge espadrille for his signature. Since then, intellectuals, actors and artists have chosen Castaner espadrilles as an indispensable complement to their wardrobe, enjoying worldwide success.
