DR MARTENS: Dr. Martens was born in 1901 by entrepreneurs Benjamin Griggs and Septimimus Jones, who began producing boots for miners and the British army. Originally, such were the classic black amphibians, with ten holes, with a spiked sole and a seam on the toe. Subsequently, in 1943 Klaus Maertens, doctor, following a fracture in his foot decided to reinvent the amphibian, introducing an innovative type of sole cushioned by an air cushion and using a softer leather. When the war was over, he decided to propose Dr. Martens' first model:8-hole brown amphibian. Initially it was not a great success, but from the 1950s onwards, and given the collaboration of Herbert Funck, an old university friend of his, Dr. Martens began to appeal to a wider and international audience. In 1960, with the concrete help of Griggs, the first 1460 model was launched:a cherry red 8-hole amphibian. Following the natural evolution of fashion, Dr. Martens became a true iconic boot, which, even today, remain a timeless icon.
